WhatsApp is popular in India, so many learners want to automate it. It works differently from email, and the rules matter.
What you need
n8n has WhatsApp Business Cloud nodes, but you must first set up the WhatsApp Business Platform with Meta: a business account, a phone number for the API and an access token. Setup steps and costs change, so follow Meta’s current documentation.
Two kinds of messages
- Replies within a customer-initiated window: you can send normal messages for a limited time after the customer writes to you.
- Business-initiated messages: these generally need pre-approved message templates.
Opt-in and respect
Only message people who agreed to hear from you. Misuse can get your number restricted.
A simple flow
A new order or enquiry triggers the workflow, n8n sends a template message with details, and the reply, if any, is handled by a person. For AI replies, see a WhatsApp AI chatbot with n8n.
Cautions
Do not use unofficial methods that break WhatsApp’s terms; they risk bans. Keep a person available for sensitive conversations.
