A WhatsApp chatbot sounds simple. In practice, rules and quality matter more than the AI.
Start with the platform
Use the official WhatsApp Business Platform as explained in connecting WhatsApp to n8n. Check current rules, templates and charges with Meta.
The flow
- Incoming message reaches n8n through a webhook.
- Identify the user and load recent memory.
- The AI agent answers using your approved information (RAG).
- Send the reply.
- Log the conversation.
Quality rules
- Answer only from provided information, and say “I am not sure” otherwise.
- Hand off to a person for complaints, payments and sensitive topics.
- Tell users they are talking to an automated assistant.
Test before launch
Try wrong spellings, Hindi and English mixes, angry messages and attempts to confuse the bot.
Costs
Messaging charges and AI model usage both apply: control AI costs.
Honest limits
A chatbot reduces repeat questions; it does not replace customer care.
Quick answers
Can an AI answer WhatsApp customers?
Yes, using the official platform and clear limits, with a person available.
How do I stop wrong answers?
