Email is one of the simplest and most useful actions in n8n. Done carelessly, though, it can also annoy people or land in spam.
Choosing a node
Use the Gmail node if you use Google accounts, or the Send Email node with SMTP for other providers. Create credentials as the node explains.
Writing the message
Use expressions to add the recipient’s name or order details. Keep the subject clear and the message short. Always include a way for people to contact you.
Reading email
n8n can also trigger on new emails and read them, which is useful for support inboxes and invoices. Be careful with personal data.
Good practice
- Send only to people who expect to hear from you.
- Do not send large bulk campaigns from a normal Gmail account; limits and spam filters apply.
- Test with your own address first.
- Avoid putting secrets in emails.
Attachments
Files can be attached from earlier nodes. Check size limits.
